If you’re looking for a clever, protein-packed alternative to the traditional cheese straw, these Savory Lentil Batons are about to become your new obsession.

By using protein-rich lentils as a base, you get an incredible earthy depth and a satisfying crunch that feels much lighter than a buttery pastry. You’re seasoning them with woody herbs. These golden-baked straws are the ultimate guilt-free snack. They are perfect for dipping into hummus, adding a rustic touch to your next charcuterie board, or simply enjoying by the handful when those savory cravings hit!
Ingredients
1 cup dried orange lentils
2 tbsp avocado oil or olive oil
1 tbsp mixed dried herbs
1 tbsp curry powder
1/2 tsp garlic granules
1/2 tsp smoked paprika
1 tsp salt
Directions
Soak the lentils in water for at least two hours
Preheat the oven to 200oC
Line a baking tray with greaseproof paper
Drain the lentils and add the them to another bowl.
Add all the other ingredients to the lentil mix.
Blend well until you have a thick paste.
use a spatula to put the paste into a piping bag.
Snip the end of the piping bag and form what ever shapes you like on the baking tray.
Pop that in the oven for 25 minutes.
Remove from the oven and set aside to cool.
I usually remnove them from the tray once out the oven, otherwsie they could burn.
And there it is again, my favourite phrase......enjoy with what ever dip you like.
